High School Watch, Queens

For the past two years, NNYN has teamed up with the CUNY Institute for Virtual Enterprise, offering workshops, seminars and courses to minority students. Here, naturalist Dave Rosane and a class from a Brooklyn high school watch as migrants arrive to nest in the salt marshes of Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge. They observe male tree swallows jostling for territorial sovereignty - in midair. For most students, a trip to NY's nature is a first time experience in "the wild". Most have never left the City in their lifetime.
