Late Summer Dragons. Midtown Manhattan

2005 was a bumper year for Swamp Darners. This summer, even as late as September, they could be found in droves all over Manhattan, especially hawking for insects as high as the 20th floor or more of city buildings. This three-inch long individual flew into NNYN offices in midtown - the time for a brief photo shoot. Swamp darners breed in local salt marshes, like those of Jamaica Bay.
