Dazzling butterfly seeks nutritious nectar, Eib's Pond, Staten Island

Back to Eib's pond for some more summer Lepidoptera! Profuse banks of Milkweed grow at the pond's edge and attract hundreds of nectar-craving insects. Here a "fresh" (i.e.: recently emerged) Tiger Swallowtail bounces from one flower to the next, sipping nectar in exchange for some cross-pollination, ever faithful to the sweet -tasting symbiosis that binds the two species.
