New York Area Biodiversity Database Project

NNYN and the Center for Environmental Research and Conservation (CERC) at Columbia University are proud to launch the New York Area Biodiversity Database Project. The Database will serve as the first basic step toward understanding the scope of biodiversity research and conservation efforts in the greater New York region. It will also help foster public awareness of the health of the local natural environment, and ultimately help to influence environmentally relevant policy decisions that affect the well being of New York's inhabitants.

Non-governmental scientific, policy, and advocacy organizations, universities, and governmental agencies and departments will be invited to collaborate on this project. Ultimately, the Database will be made available to the public through an interactive website.

The project is a unique collaboration between NNYN and CERC, an unrivaled consortium of five world class scientific institutions with longstanding experience in the greater New York region: Columbia University, the American Museum of Natural History, The New York Botanical Garden, Wildlife Conservation Society, and Wildlife Trust.
