Nurture New York's Nature is selling the Christo prints

Christo and Jeanne-Claude's works have been seen live by millions. Tens of millions more have followed their work through the extensive media coverage that inevitably follows. But the live experience of a Christo artwork has always been brief because the artworks themselves exist for short periods of time. So, his decision to make art prints of his work available will not only expand the experience of his art but also its audience, says Carl Gustaf Flach, the Swedish art critic and a close friend of the artists.

Flach, a former cultural official with the Swedish government, who now represents Christo and Jeanne-Claude worldwide, notes that five million people visited Christo's Reichstag work and another 3.5 million saw the Paris installations. Even more are expected to see the Gates at Central Park, he adds.

Still, the prints give a new dimension to what Christo and Jeanne-Claude are trying to achieve. "They are making the works accessible to an even wider community, especially many of those who can' visit the sites or go to museums. " Moreover, notes Flach, the artists are licensing their prints to various organizations and letting them take in the revenues.

Among the organizations licensed by Christo and Jeanne-Claude to sell the prints is Nurture New York's Nature, which currently has more than 74 different prints for sale, covering more than 15 different installations, including the Gates. Since NNYN began making the prints available on its website, the response has been nothing short of phenomenal, says Jake Kheel, NNYN Project Director.
