NNYN and CUNY's School of Professional Studies are again offering a fall course called the Nature of New York: Its Natural History and Environment. Combining environmental science, geology, biology, marine science and anthropology, this course will explore the role nature has played in the making of New York and the long term effects of urbanization on the environment. This is the third offering of the course, and both previous sections have received excellent reviews.

The course which includes both classroom lectures and an extensive field trip is a 15-week program and will be taught by some of the most well-known and respected experts in the region. They include John Waldman of Queens College; author Tony Hiss, PEER Award winner William Solecki of Hunter College, William Wallace of the College of Staten Island and Christina Colon of the New York Botanical Gardens. For the field component of the course NNYN chief naturalist David Rosane will be taking students to some of the biodiversity hotspots in the city.
