It is a great pleasure to welcome all those attending tonight's reception in honor of Christo and Jeanne-Claude and Deutsche Bank. Their support of the Carriage House Center and efforts on behalf of The Gates Project for Central Park ensure that New Yorkers and our many visitors will have the opportunity to re-imagine the spaces we live in. Public art projects fill our communities with a tremendous amount of creative energy, reminding us of this City's ability to renew itself and its public spaces. Expanding New York's position as the world's preeminent home for cutting-edge art is important not only to our City's creative spirit but also to our economic vitality.

Christo and Jeanne-Claude have an amazing track record of producing transforming works of art and I am pleased that The Gates will benefit the Carriage House Center's initiatives. On behalf of all eight million New Yorkers, I commend your dedication to preserve and restore our City's natural environment and to promote the importance of the arts. The Center's commitment to strengthening our great City and making it a better place for all New Yorkers is commendable.
