NNYN Party Celebrates Book Launch

Kids and grownups celebrated the publication of Go Wild in New York City at a NNYN reception on January 21. It was also the occasion to unveil the playful web site www.gowildnyc.org that accompanies the book. While author Brad Matsen and illustrator Paul Corio signed copies of the book for many of the attendees, children and adults browsed through the book and strolled through the website.

At $16.95, Go Wild is the best buy in town, says Ted Kheel. "For that money, you get a book, access to a dynamic web site and a lifetime course in urban ecology." He also announced that the newly-created Urban Nature Media Workshop, a not-for-profit foundation involving the creators of Go Wild and NNYN, would be used to develop and produce Go Wild in cities such as Boston and Washington, and develop other products based on the concept.

Jessica Marshall of Eye Candy Books, who together with Amy Zilliax, conceptualized Go Wild several years ago, talked about the near absence of material that prompted the need for the book. Brad Matsen, who helped put her ideas into words, described how gratifying the process of creating the book was and how much fun it would be to create similar books for Boston, Washington and a slew of other American cities.

GO WILD is designed by Kate Thompson and Katherine Dillon and illustrated by Paul Corio. It has been produced with the help of NNYN, National Geographic and Verizon.
